The time is always right to do what is right....Martin Luther King, Jr.

This month's quotes are by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., a very dynamic American clergyman and leader of the Civil Rights Movement in America. Martin Luther King was born in 1929 in Atlanta, Georgia. He was assassinated by a gunman April 4, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. King, Jr. was considered an American saint by many, yet very unpopular to others. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. is possibly most famous for his speech "I Have A Dream" where he talks about something which seems so simple, that all people would one day be able to hold hands....fellowship together at work or at play, regardless of color. When you look out over a crowd of people, especially in America, you will see people of all colors just like the children's song which says...."red and yellow, black and white"....and as the song goes...."Jesus loves the little children of the world." We are all created by God, and He chose our color from the beginning of time. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s work with the Civil Rights Movement started when he heard about a black lady who was arrested when she refused to give up her seat on a bus....she was expected to relinquish her seat to a white lady who didn't have a seat. I am by no means an expert on etiquette. However, I have been taught that the young relinquish their seats to the elderly, and gentlemen relinquish their seats to the ladies....out of respect....regardless of color or race. Martin Luther King, Jr. simply wanted all people to be treated equal. He organized nonviolent marches to protest segregation and racial injustice because in his words...."I am concerned about a better world. I am concerned about justice. I am concerned about brotherhood. I am concerned about truth. And when one is concerned about these things, he can never advocate violence. For through violence you may murder a murderer, but you can't murder murder. Through violence you may murder a liar but you can't establish truth. Through violence you may murder a hater but you can't murder hate. Darkness cannot put out darkness. Only light can do that." Dr. King, Jr. definitely had a beautiful dream....that we could respect each other regardless of color and realize that we should all be treated equal....because we are all created equal. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s beautiful words best describe equality...."I have the audacity to believe that peoples everywhere can have three meals a day for their bodies, education and culture for their minds, and dignity, equality and freedom for their spirits. I believe that what self-centered men have torn down, men other-centered can build up. I still believe that one day mankind will bow down before the altars of God and be crowned triumphant over war and bloodshed, and nonviolent redemptive goodwill will proclaim the rule of the land"....
