"Be more concerned with your character than with your reputation. Your character is what you really are while your reputation is merely what others think you are"....Dale Carnegie.

Doesn't your character determine what others think of you....thus forming your reputation??? And where does this leave the quote "that we should encourage others based on what we know they can be and they will start living up to it"???

The following is taken from Dale Carnegie's Scrapbook....

"Instead of worrying about what people say of you, why not spend your time trying to accomplish something they will admire"....Dale Carnegie.

It seems the quotes are really saying think of others in what you do....and your reputation will be okay :-) I like this quote by R. C. Samsel about character and reputation...."Character is the foundation stone upon which one must build to win respect. Just as no worthy building can be erected on a weak foundation, so no lasting reputation worthy of respect can be built on a weak character."  It seems that character and reputation actually go hand in hand and we have one because of the other.
